In the UK, since 1990, Granada
Television's 'Stars In Their Eyes' series has been a staple
of ITV's Saturday night prime time TV schedules.
 Attracting
viewing figures of around 10 million for each show and more
for the live finals its popularity has spawned spin-off
'Kids' and 'Celebrity' editions in recent years.
Each series attracts tens of thousands of applications from
potential participants hoping to appear on the show as a
tribute to their favourite musical stars.
Five people appear on each episode, now hosted by Cat Deely,
with the winner from each show going forward to a live grand
final which is judged by telephone poll from the television
audience at home.
